About Me
I am co-author of Seattle Field Guide: Explore Nature in the City, a colorful, seasonal guide to 38 nature-filled outings and facts about the wild animals and plants that share our parks, shorelines, campuses and neighborhoods. (Mountaineers Books April 2026). I’ve also written scores of articles for both print and online publications, with a focus on the outdoors, science and health and travel. My bylines include Smithsonian Magazine, Slate, Seattle Times, Mother Jones, Sunset Magazine, Crosscut, Seattle Magazine, and Seattle Metropolitan.
In addition, I work as a freelance content writer and developer, helping businesses, nonprofits, and individuals tell stories that educate, engage, and delight. My approach is friendly and collaborative, and I meet my goals with creativity, diligence, and a sense of humor. I’ve worked with clients including REI, Kaiser Permanente, The Breast Cancer and Chemicals Policy Project, the Institute for Systems Biology, NRDC and AboutUSKids. I ghostwrite white papers, blog posts, educational content, and books on topics ranging from environmental science and outdoor recreation to culture, travel, and community issues.
